Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Child: Age range: 3-5.11 years of age No associated syndrome or diagnosis of any mental illness or developmental disorder Age adequate language as reported by mother and on language assessment tools Language: Malayalam Mother(Bipolar Disorder): Current diagnosis of bipolar disorder according to ICD 11/DSM V by a psychiatrist/ experienced clinical psychologist with a minimum requirement of follow-up and rated on Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS; >12) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS; >7) On stable medications for two months (in remission) Diagnosed with bipolar disorder for a minimum of three years Language: Malayalam Age range: 21-50 years of age Should have a minimum education of 10 years Belonging to middle socio-economic status (on Modified Kuppuswamy Socioeconomic Scale, Kumar et al., 2022) Mothers living within the community with minimal familial support Mother(Healthy Control): Those who pass the screening on Self-Reporting Questionnaire-24 (SRQ-24)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Child: Premature birth ( Children who were diagnosed with developmental/ neurological/ psychiatric/ sensory impairment (hearing/visual)/ cognitive/language issues Mother(Bipolar Disorder): On substance abuse (except nicotine), had multiple childbirth, premature/ complicated childbirth Mother whose child is not living with her. Mothers who have a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia, psychotic disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, severe recurring unipolar depression, severe anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, or any other mental/ neurological illness or speech-language disorders Professionals such as medical and allied health professionals, speech language pathologists, teachers, librarians and avid readers Mother(Healthy Control): Mothers with no diagnosed mental illness
