Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patient willing to give informed consent posted for elective surgery ASA grade 1 -3 2. BMI 3. Patients adhered to fasting guidelines

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients undergoing emergency surgeries 2. Patients with CKD 3. GERD 4. Hypothyroidism/Hyperthyroidism 5. Connective tissue disorder 6. Previous esophageal or abdominal surgeries 7. Patients on antidepressant drugs 8. Parturients 9. Patients with nasogastric tube insitu

MeasureTime frame
To compare: 1. antral cross sectional area 2. gastric volume 3. gastric volume per kg body weight using ultrasound after standard ASA fasting guidelines in diabetics and non diabetics Timepoint: 6 hours after fasting(baseline)

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the HbA1c levels & duration of diabetes with the fasting gastric volumes measured by ultrasound. Timepoint: baseline
