Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. All children less than 8 years age whose parents give consent and who are planned to undergo a day care procedure under general anaesthesia. E.g Bone marrow biopsy and aspiration, CSF study, Intrathecal Methotrexate injection, Chemoport removal, lymph node biopsy, Bone biopsy, examination under anaesthesia, diagnostic and therapeutic Radiology procedures, paediatric radiotherapy planning or 1st treatment 2. Outpatient cases 3. ASA1 and ASA2 children 4. Patients scheduled for the procedure in the morning slot
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients who are critically ill / admitted in ICU 2. Children admitted to the hospital 3. Children with delayed gastric emptying- neurosurgical cases with raised ICP etc 4. Children who require emergency surgeries/procedures 5. Children with congenital defects, ASA3 and ASA4 children 6. Absence of parental consent to participate 7. Inadequate language comprehension by parents 8. Children with complex nutrition requirement example- gastrostomy tube feeds, children on TPN etc. 9. Children scheduled to undergo the procedure in the afternoon slot

| 1. It will identify our shortcomings in explaining the guidelines. It will help us to reinforce institutional protocols regarding fasting. 2. It will help us get a baseline idea about the current adherence to fasting guidelines. Further, it will help us to undertake various quality improvement initiatives to improve adherence to fasting. 3. It will help us to identify the rate of postponements & cancellations in children who are not adequately fasting & also help us in identifying causes of over-fasting among children. 4.
