Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Neonates who undergo lumbar puncture study for suspected meningitis

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Positive CSF culture report or if CSF PCR report is not available

MeasureTime frame
To determine the proportion of CSF samples negative for bacteria by PCR test in culture negative studies among those investigated for neonatal meningitisTimepoint: When results of CSF study is obtained.Usually 48 hours after lumbar puncture.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
The association between CSF PCR result & abnormal CSF cytology,biochemistry.Timepoint: When results of CSF study is obtained.Usually within 48 hours of lumbar puncture.;To decribe short term clinical outcomes at discharge & 4 months of age(survival,survival without neurodisability)of newborns with CSF PCR negative & positive result respectively.Timepoint: At discharge from NICU & at 4 months of age
