Intervention1: Delirium prevention protocol: SLEEP QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Ear plugs and eye patches during sleep hours to those willing to use the same. Bright lights were switched off during sleep.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Postoperative elderly patients over 60 years admitted to ICU Both male and female gender Post operative after any major non-cardiac surgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Mechanically ventilated patients Hemodynamically unstable patients Patients requiring deep sedation Patients with Hyponatremia Serum Sodium less than 130 meq per litre) Metabolic encephalopathy - Hepatic encephalopathy. Patients with pre-existing diagnosed dementia Patients on regular psychiatric medications Traumatic brain injury History of acute alcohol intake / intoxication History of poor irreversible neurological status at the time of admission

To study the Incidence of delirium in elderly postoperative patients . To study the difference in incidence of delirium after implementation of a delirium prevention protocol Timepoint: 5 months each for both primary outcomes
