Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Individuals of age group 18 - 60 years 2. Both gender 3. BMI = 35 kg.m-2 4. American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) I and II 5. Patients undergoing elective major abdominal and intraperitoneal surgeries including laparotomy, hysterectomy, hemicolectomy.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient’s unwillingness to participate in the study 2. Patients suffering from serious cardio-respiratory, neurological, hepatic or renal insufficiency 3. Patients with malignancies 4. Patients on centrally acting medications 5. Pregnancy and lactation 6. Patient allergic to the study drug 7. Alcohol and substance abuse

Plasma reninTimepoint: Before induction, 30 min into GA, 1 h after surgery in PACU and in the ward after 24 h

1. Blood parameters: Plasma AVP, plasma sodium and potassium concentration, plasma osmolality, plasma and serum creatinine 2. Urine parameters: Urine output, fractional excretion of sodium, fractional excretion of potassium, urinary sodium excretion, urinary potassium excretion, creatinine clearance 3. Maintenance dose of propofol per hour or sevoflurane per hour during surgery 4. Haemodynamics 5. Input-output of fluids 6. Length of stay in post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU) till modified Aldrete’s score =9 7. Any adverse eventsTimepoint: 1.
