Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients of intertrochanteric fracture femur undergoing open reduction internal fixation with interlocking nailing. 2. Patients willing to participate in study and cooperative patients. 3. Patients of either gender in age group of 40 to 80 years. 4. Patients of ASA grade I, II and III. 5. Patients with BMI of 18-30 kg/m2.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patents with history of coagulopathies and any neuropathy. 2. Patients allergic to local anaesthetic(Bupivacaine). 3. Patients with local pathology at the injection site. 4. Patients with disability limiting the performance of block.

MeasureTime frame
1) To assess and compare the difference in the mean duration of postoperative analgesia in both groups. 2) To assess and compare the difference in the mean duration of time taken for performing both blocks. 3) To assess and compare the mean percentage of cases who experienced pain during spinal positioning. 4) To assess and compare the difference in the mean number of doses of opioids consumed in the postoperative period in both groups.Timepoint: 1) To assess and compare the difference in mean NRS score immediately after block, 10, 20, and 30 mins after block and 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 18 and 24 hours postoperatively. 2) Time required to perform the procedure in minutes. 3) Opoiod consumption within 24 hours of the postoperative period.
