Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients with age > 18 years admitted to ICU requiring endotracheal intubation or tracheostomy and those who are extubated or decannulated in the ICU. 2.Patients intubated and tracheostomized elsewhere would also be included in the study. 3.Intubated OR tracheostomized patients who expire in the ICU.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients not willing to participate in the study. 2.Patients who are not extubated or decannulated in the ICU, who will either be transferred to another hospital or discharged from hospital with an endotracheal or tracheostomy tube in-situ.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine the incidence of endotracheal and tracheostomy tube blocks in ICU patients.Timepoint: Until admitted in ICU

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the degree of tube blockage with the duration of invasive mechanical ventilation, length of ICU, hospital stay and mortalityTimepoint: Until admitted in ICU;To compare the incidence of tube blocks in various clinical settingsTimepoint: Until admitted in ICU;To determine the factors contributing to tube blockage.Timepoint: Until admitted in ICU
