Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Duration of mechanical ventilation > 48 hrs 2.Eligible for spontaneous breathing trial(SBT)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients with chest or abdominal trauma, abdominal surgery, distorted abdominal wall anatomy. 2.Localized fluid collections in the abdomen, abdominal wall hematomas, hernias and inguinal masses. 3.Neuromuscular weakness and diaphragmatic disorders. 4.Pneumothorax,pleural effusion. 5.Pregnanacy.

1.To compare the thickness of abdominal expiratory muscles between simple weaning & difficult/prolong weaning groups. 2.For predicting weaning outcome in patients on mechanical ventilation in the Intensive Care Unit a)To assess the change in thickness of abdominal expiratory muscles on the day of successful breathing trial as compared to the day of admission. b)To compare the diagnostic accuracy of thickness of abdominal expiratory muscles with diaphragmatic excursion.Timepoint: During the course in the Intensive Care Unit
