Intervention1: Tactile Stimulation: Procedure I: This will be done in the prone position. Eight firm strokes with palmer surface of
the hands, finger-tip massage and thumb pressure for 5-15 seconds ea
(b) Neck - from midline, outwards
with both hands simultaneously
(c) Shoulders - from midline, outwards with both
hands simultaneously
and (d) Back - from nape of neck down to buttock with
firm, long stroke with alternate hands.
Procedure-II:
This will be done in the supine position. Eight firm strokes with palms of the
hands, finger
(b) Cheeks - From side of nose, with finger tip massage
simultaneously in rotating and clockwise direction
(c) Chest- ‘butterfly’ stroking
from midline upwards, outwards, downwards and inwards back to initiating point
using palmer aspect of hand
(d) Abdomen - From the appendix, in a clock wise
direction around abdomen avoiding the epigastrium and probes, with gentle
strokes
(e) Upper limbs (each separately) - from shoulders to wrist using alternate
hands for stroking
( f ) Lower limbs(each separately) - from hips to ankles using
alternate hands for stroking
(g) Palms - from wrist to finger tips using alternate
hand for stroking
and (h) Soles -from heel to toe tips using alternate hands for
stroking.
The frequency and duration of treatment is 20 minutes two sessions per day along with conventional Physiotherapy. The frequency

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Neonate born more than 35 weeks of gestational age with perinatal asphyxia Neonate who has HIE – Stage I & II (Sarnat et al 1976)
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Neonates with weight less than 1000gm, and associated co-morbidities Neonates who are under invasive mechanical ventilation Neonates with respiratory and cardiac congenital anomalies Neonates who underwent surgical procedures and those with genetic syndromes, any segmental or lobar collapse confirmed on chest X-ray Neonates with hypoglycemia
