Interventions

Intervention1: Lorazepam: Benzodiazepine used for Detoxification. Dose: Based on symptom triggered regimen. Initiation dose of 4 mg/day and uptitration of 1 mg/day Frequency: Daily, as per withdrawal

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients diagnosed with Alcohol Dependence Syndrome as per ICD-11 criteria. 2. Alcohol withdrawal assessment scoring guidelines (CIWA-AR) score moderate withdrawals as per Maudsley guidelines) 3. Age groups 25 and above. 4. Male gender.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients who are known cases of epilepsy. 2. Patient dependent on other substances except nicotine and caffeine 3. Patients with past history of complicated withdrawals 4. Patients who are intoxicated or are in severe withdrawals. 5. Patients with comorbid active psychotic illness. 6. Actively suicidal patients. 7. Patients with any acute medical or surgical illness.
