Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: FOR OLDER ADULTS: 1.Age 60 years and older. 2.All genders. 3.Able to speak and read English or Hindi. 4.Having at least 10 years of formal education. 5.Having access to a mobile phone and comfortable in engaging in phone calls of 15-20 minutes in duration. 6. Experiencing any one of the following: a.Social isolation as evident by a score of 12 or less on Lubben’s Social Network Scale- Revised six item (Lubben et al., 2006). b.Loneliness as evident on a score of 5 on the three-item of the 8- item UCLA Loneliness scale (Hays and DiMatteo, 1987). FOR COLLEGE YOUTH: 1.College students between 18-25 years of age. 2.Able to speak and read in English or Hindi. 3.All genders.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: FOR OLDER ADULTS: 1.Probable psychosis as assessed on Modified MINI Screen Section C (OASAS, 2001). 2.Experiencing severe distress as evident on Kessler Psychological distress measure (Kessler et al., 2002). 3.Seeking services from a mental health professional in the last 6 months. 4.Having any cognitive impairment that limits taking part in the study as evident on HMSE (Ganguli et al., 1995). 5.A major medical condition or physical impairment that makes older adults not amenable to participate in intervention program. 6.Foreign nationals. FOR COLLEGE YOUTH: 1.Experiencing severe distress as evident on Kessler Psychological distress measure (Kessler et al., 2002). 2.Self-report of undergoing treatment for any major psychiatric illness in the last 6 months. 3.Foreign nationals.
