Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Partially or completely bony impacted mandibular third molars. 2. Age between 18-40 years.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Acute infection/abscess of odontogenic and non-odontogenic causes. 2. Pregnant and lactating females. 3. Patients with known systemic disorders such as diabetes mellitus, anaemia, hypertension, thyroid disorder, immunocompromised state etc. 4. History of allergy to local anaesthetic agents like lignocaine. 5. Heavy use alcoholics(For men, consuming more than 4 drinks on any day or more than 14 drinks per week, For women, consuming more than 3 drinks on any day or more than 7 drinks per week) and current smokers(An adult who has smoked 100 cigarettes in his or her lifetime and who currently smokes cigarettes). 6. Patients having disorders causing impairment in mouth opening of less than 30mm like OSMF, Temporomandibular Joint Disorders , trismus etc

1.Evaluation & comparison of mean intraoperative time taken (in mins) during the surgery of group 1, group 2 and group 3 from the start of giving the incision till end of last suture tied.Timepoint: from the start of giving the incision till end of last suture tied.

Evaluation & comparison of mean pain intensity scores of group 1, group 2 & group 3 as assessed by visual analogue scaleTimepoint: Preoperatively on the day 0 (day of surgery) & on the 1st, 3rd, 7th & 15th post-operative days.;Evaluation & comparison of facial edema as assessed by mean distance (in mm) between : Tragus & lip commissure, tragus & soft tissue pogonion, gonion & external canthus of eye of group 1, group 2 & group 3Timepoint: Preoperatively on the day 0 & on the 1st, 3rd, 7th & 15th post-operative days.;Evaluation & comparison of mean values of maximum interincisal opening (in mm) of group 1, group 2 & group 3Timepoint: Preoperatively on the day 0 & on the 1st, 3rd, 7th & 15th post-operative days.;Evaluation & comparison of attachment level & pocket depth distal to 2nd mandibular molar of group 1, group 2 & group 3 by average values of the depths at the distolingual, distobuccal and mid distal areas (in mm)Timepoint: 15th & 30th post operative days.;Evaluation & comparison of severity of symptoms after extraction of third molar of group 1, group 2 & group 3 on 7th post operative day using PoSSe Scale.Timepoint: 7th post operative day;Evaluation & comparison of impact of symptoms on patient’s perceived health of group 1, group2 & group 3 on 7th post operative day using PoSSe Scale.
