Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Inclusion Criteria for test group 1. Age >18-50 years 2. Patients scheduled to undergo laparoscopic/open cholecystectomy 3. Patients with normal serum vit D level in pre-operative period Inclusion Criteria for control group 1. Age 18-50 years 2. Patients scheduled to undergo surgery other than cholecystectomy eg hernia repair, SFJ ligation and stripping for varicose vein, etc 3. Patients with normal serum vit D level in pre-operative period

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria test group 1. Patients with significant liver or renal disease 2. Patients with gastrointestinal malabsorptive disorders eg. Celiac disease 3. Patients already on vit D supplement 3 months prior to surgery 4. Patients with previous history of surgery interfering with vit D metabolism eg. Parathyroid surgery, renal transplant, bariatric surgery, terminal ileal resection. 5. Patients with endocrine disorders eg. parathyroid deficiency. 6. Patients with acute cholecystitis 7. Patient refusal to give consent to participate in the study Exclusion criteria control group 1. Patients with significant liver or renal disease 2. To measure the impact of cholecystectomy over vit D3 level including time to reach the insufficient/deficient level & also to evaluate proportion of patients in each group having insufficient/deficient level at each point of time.Timepoint: baseline, 1month, 3 month , 6 month
