Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Preoperative patients planned for elective neurosurgeries in Neurosurgical OR over a period of 6 months

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Emergency procedures, GCS Enteral tube feeding, Gastrointestinal obstruction, Unable to participate in the interview.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the time for pre-operative fasting for solid food, clear fluids, & breast milk & the incidence of excessive fasting.Timepoint: 3 months

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the possible risk factors influencing prolonged fasting times like age, fasting protocol in the ward, education of the patient in the preoperative period, documentation of time for the fasting time during the pre-anesthetic work-up, surgical schedule (first of the day, in the morning, afternoon or evening) & the type of surgery (day care procedure, surgery with same day or earlier admission). The patient characteristics, comorbidities, admission, and surgery details will also be collected from the hospital records.Timepoint: More than 8, 12, & 16 h
