Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients aged more than 65 years admitted in critical care units will be included in the study

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients will be excluded if they are admitted to an ICU for organ donation, palliative care only, amputees, limb asymmetry such as those caused by prior hemiplegic stroke leading to unilateral muscle wasting, neuromuscular muscle-wasting disorder as a known preexisting condition, and skin lacerations or wounds in the areas selected for ultrasound evaluation

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To identify the relationship between CLINICAL FRAILTY SCALE AND the muscle ultrasound measurement of BATT(Bi-lateral anterior thigh thickness) at admission among critically ill elderly patients to their 28 day mortality.Timepoint: TILL DAY 28 OF ADMISSION

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
BATT measurement & its correlation with length of ICU stay, length of hospital stay, mechanical ventilation free days, vasopressor free days, requirement of RRT,VAP,BSI,re-admission. â?¢ CFS and its correlation with length of ICU stay, length of hospital stay, mechanical ventilation free days, vasopressor free days, requirement of RENAL REPLACEMENT THERAPY,VENTILATOR ASSOCIATED PNEUMONIA,BLOOD STREAM INFECTION,re-admission. Timepoint: SINCE ADMISSION TILL DAY 28 OF ICU ADMISSION
