Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Stage 3 AKI patients, due to acute tubular injury or acute interstitial nephritis 2. Initiated on RRT

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with known hypersensitivity to egg, soybean, peanut protein, or to any of the active ingredients or excipients in Intralipid 20% 2. Patients with moderate-severe and severe hypertriglyceridemia (Triglycerides 500mg/dL) 3. Patients with severe hemodynamic instability (2 drugs for inotropic support) 4. Patients who are already on RRT before enrolment into the study 5. Patients with 3+ dipstick proteinuria, RBC cast in urine (suggestive of glomerulonephritis)

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Better reduction in serum Indoxyl Sulphate brought by protein bound toxin displacer-aided HD in comparison with conventional HDTimepoint: Serum Indoxyl sulphate levels will be measured before and after a dialysis session (after 2nd HD session, in particular). Samples are stored till adequate patients are recruited. These samples will then processed to compare the difference in decline of indoxyl sulphate between conventional HD and displacer aided HD

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Better recovery of renal function in Indoxyl Sulphate brought by protein bound toxin displacer-aided HD groupTimepoint: 21 days from the day of initiation of HD
