Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Neonates with diagnosed encephalopathy, or showing any of 3 symptoms- altered mental status, recurrent seizures, abnormal neurological function

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Neonates with severe congenital cardiac/ cerebral anomalies Known chromosomal anomalies

Lac Cr spectroscopy ratio in specific areas of brain to determine values for categorization by severity of disease Fractional Anisotropy values through diffusion tensor imaging to determine extent of involvement of tracts & correlation with clinical outcome Timepoint: one year from beginning data collection (baseline) - 31st july 2024
