Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All patients who need a central venous catheter in the ICU as a part of their management .

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Refusal from patient Central venous catheter insertion in emergency Infection at the site of insertion Restless or irritable patient Failure to cannulate the desired vein Severely deranged coagulopathy Thrombosed vein Pneumothorax or hemothorax Previous neck surgeries

MeasureTime frame
To compare the time required for ultrasound-guided cannulation of IJV & SCVTimepoint: Cannulation time- duration in seconds from the start of insertion of the introducer needle to the return of darker coloured blood in the syringe attached to it. Access time â?? duration in seconds from the start of insertion of introducer needle to the end of catheter placement, not including fixation & suturing time.

To observe the complications that might occur during the cannulation of IJV & SCV like 1)pneumothorax 2)arterial puncture 3)misplacement of the catheter tip 4) Local signs of infection at insertion site 5)catheter-related thrombosis 6) the number of attempts required for cannulationTimepoint: at baseline for pnemothorax , arterial puncture & misplacement of the catheter tip For local signs of infection will be observed till 7 days For catheter-related thrombosis, will be done on day 3 & day 7
