Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All children between 6 months to 18 years of age admitted in Kasturba Hospital and diagnosed to have beta thalassemia major.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Known case of congenital thyroid disorders, congenital heart disease, chronic renal disease, chronic hepatic disease 2. Family history of premature atherosclerosis (onset of symptoms 3. Family history of hypercholesterolemia 4. Children with BMI > 95th percentile 5. Children with hypertension according to age, sex and height

To study fasting lipid profile & carotid artery intima media thickness in children with beta thalassemia major.Timepoint: 2 years

To correlate fasting lipid profile & carotid artery intima media thickness with serum ferritin level and chelation therapy in children with beta thalassemia major.Timepoint: 2 years
