Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Adult patients in age 18-65 years, either gender posted for valvular heart surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1)Left ventricular ejection fraction 2)Comorbidities like cardiomyopathy, cerebrovascular disease 3)Peripheral vascular disease 4)Patients with chronic kidney disease

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the effect of remote ischemic preconditioning on 1)Renal function by measuring blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine and creatinine clearance 2)Myocardial function by measuring creatinine phosphokinase(total), CPK-MB and Troponin ITimepoint: 1) Pre op 2)End of surgery 3)12 hours after surgery 4)24 hours after surgery 5)48 hours after surgery 6)72 hours after surgery

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To evaluate the effect of remote ischemic preconditioning on a) Post operative Atrial Fibrillation (AF) b)Respiratory function by means of PaO 2 / FiO 2 Ratio c)Length of Intensive Care Unit stayTimepoint: At the end of surgery, 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours post-surgery.
