Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Consenting patients of 18 - 65 years of age, of ASA Physical Status 1 and 2, posted for major cancer surgeries under general anesthesia with controlled mechanical ventilation, with or without regional analgesia.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Pregnant women, patients below 18 years of age, or above 65 years age. Patients of ASA physical status 3, 4 and 5, or severe cardiovascular, respiratory, neurological, renal, hepatic, and coagulation disorders. Patients posted for emergency surgeries. Patients with fasting periods of more than 2 hours (continuing on clear fluids, after the last meal beyond 6 hours). Patients whose airways are secured by tracheostomy or awake tracheal intubation, or rapid sequence induction and intubation, and patients with anticipated difficult airway. Patients not willing to participate in the study. Patients in whom regional analgesia is planned to be administered prior to induction of general anesthesia.
