Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Cases: children (2-59 months) with congenital heart disease confirmed by Echocardiography and presenting with pneumonia defined as per World Health Organisation Comparison group: children (2-59 months) (preferably age and sex matched) presenting with pneumonia without any known congenital heart defect.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: -children with history of antibiotic intake in past 7 days -children with known immunodeficiency -children with chronic kidney and chronic liver disease -children with nasal deformity -children with structural lung malformation

Nasopharyngeal carriage of S.pneumoniae in children with pneumonia with & without congenital heart diseaseTimepoint: At baseline

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Serotype distribution & antibiotic resistance of S.pneumoniae. 2.Association of nasopharyngeal carriage of S.pneumoniae with pneumococcal vaccination. 3.Risk factors associated with carriage defined as age less than 2 years, malnutrition (weight for height less than -3SD), immunisation status, more than 1 siblings, siblings less than 6 years of age, overcrowding, smoker in family, h/o running nose within last 2 weeks, h/o pneumonia within last 1 year, h/o otitis media within last 1 year, h/o hospitalization within last 1 year. 4.Association between nasopharyngeal carriage of S.pneumoniae & S.aureus. 5.Nasopharyngeal & axillary carriage of S.aureus & in vitro antibiotic susceptibility patternTimepoint: At baseline
