Interventions

Intervention1: Xylitol: At the age of 6 months, intervention will be executed in both preterm births using xylitol wipes and in mothers using xylitol paste and will be stopped at the starting of age

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Preterm births ( 2. Mothers with DMFT > 2 and with at least one active carious lesion in the last year. 3. Mothers who are the primary caregivers of the infants ( >8 hours of care daily). 4. Subjects willing to comply with the study procedures.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Infants born with other oral or systemic diseases. 2. Infectious or inflammatory disease in the month prior to intervention to mother and preterm births. 3. Preterms with low Estimated Fetal Weight (less than 10th percentile).

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Assessment of number of streptococcus mutans colonies. Timepoint: 1. At 6th month age of the preterm births. 2. At 7th month age of preterm births. 3. At 12 months age of preterm births.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Assessment of carious lesions.Timepoint: At 12 months age of the preterm births.
