Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: -Age between 40-70 years. -Persistent osteoarthritic symptoms for at least 6 months. -Radiographic evidence of late-stage osteoarthritis of the knee(Kellgren/Lawrence stage II- III). -History of nonoperative treatment including pain medication and physiotherapy
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: -Anticoagulant treatment or hemophilia -Rheumatic diseases leading to secondary osteoarthritis Hematological, hepatological, renal, or immunological disease -Insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus -Intraarticular injections or systemic application of corticosteroids during the previous 3 months -Surgery of the affected knee during the previous 3 months, or joint replacement Previous leech therapy
