Intervention1: Maltdextrin drink (Carboload): The patients randomised in Group C will receive 800 ml Carboload feeding at around 10 PM the night before surgery and further 400 mL Carboload at around 6

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients who will require general anaesthesia for abdominal surgeries for colorectal cancer. Patients posted as first case of the day.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: History of gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) Known case of ventral hernia Patient with intestinal obstruction Patient posted for emergency surgery BMI >30 Ongoing steroid treatment Diabetic Patients Patients with naso-gastric/ naso-jejunal tubes in-situ.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
The primary outcome to be measured in the study will be the RGV (in mL) measured with ultrasound.Timepoint: Just before induction of anaesthesia.
