Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult female patients ( >18 years of age) 2. ASA I to III 3. Baseline Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) > 24 4. Malignancy surgery expected to last > 90 min
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Pregnancy, trauma, emergency surgery and obvious infections Alcohol/drug abuse On beta blocker therapy Contraindications for dexmedetomidine administration e.g. sick sinus syndrome , secondary heart blocks , hepatic dysfunction , renal dysfunction requiring dialysis or allergy to dexmedetomidine Known case of neurological or psychiatric disorders (Parkinsonism, Alzheimer’s disease) Patients receiving drugs which predispose to the development of POD like anticholinergics, opioids and psychoactive drugs, e.g., cocaine, heroin, Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).
