Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: I. Age more than or equal to 18 years. II. Histologically proven esophageal cancer patients III. Patients who are planned for nCRT followed by esophagectomy with curative intent. IV. Patients with carcinoma esophagus who have undergone FDG PET-CT for both staging and post 4-7 weeks of nCRT.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: I. Patients with known carcinoma esophagus and distant metastases. II. Patients who did not undergo esophagectomy for various reasons (lost to follow up, death, complications of nCRT, co-morbidities or disease progression). III. Pregnant and breastfeeding women. IV. Non-compliant patients.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To determine the diagnostic accuracy of new interpretation criteria to categorize inflammatory changes and residual tumor on early FDG PET-CT within 4-7 weeks of nCRT in esophageal cancer patients with post operative histopathology as gold standard.Timepoint: After completion of scans AT BASELINE AND AFTER 4-7 WEEKS OF CTRT COMPLETION

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. To compare new FDG PET-CT criteria with the existing PERCIST 1.0 to predict residual disease post nCRT in patients with carcinoma esophagus.Timepoint: After completion of scans AT BASELINE AND 4-7 WEEKS AFTER CTRT COMPLETION;2. To analyse semiquantitative metabolic parameters on early FDG PET-CT corresponding to radiation induced inflammation in post-surgery histopathology examination for carcinoma esophagus.Timepoint: After completion of scans AT BASELINE AND 4-7 WEEKS AFTER CTRT COMPLETION
