Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To assess the lung ultrasound score for atelectasis 30 minutes after extubation.Timepoint: 30 minutes after extubation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Anterior LUS post induction & pre-extubation.Timepoint: intraoperative period;Arterial blood gas – pH, PaO2/FiO2 ratio, PaCO2, HCO3 (before induction(baseline), end of surgery & 30 min after extubation)Timepoint: intraoperative ,postoperative period;Incidence of postoperative pulmonary complications (at 24 hours, Melbourne group scale)Timepoint: 24 hours postoperative period;Incidence of re-intubations & postoperative ICU admissions. Timepoint: postoperative period;Respiratory mechanics – DP, plateau pressure, PEEP, lung compliance, SpO2, EtCO2 & FiO2 (post-induction before ventilation protocol (VP), 30 min after VP, 30 min before end of surgery). Timepoint: intraoperative period
