Health Condition 1: O- Medical and Surgical Health Condition 2: E119- Type 2 diabetes mellitus without complications

Interventions

Intervention1: Carbohydrate drink: Carbohydrate load (carboload 50g sachet in 400ml water 47.5 g carbohydrate 190 Kcal/kj + other minerals) The patients will be given the carbohydrate drink at 5 a.m.

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1.Patients willing to take part in the study. 2.Adult diabetics patients posted for surgery under general anesthesia 3.ASA status 2 patients 4.Patients undergoing low-intermediate risk surgeries 5.Patient age group 18 years and above

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients undergoing High risk surgery, 2.Emergency surgery 3.Type 1 DM 4.ASA 3,4 patients 5.Morbid obesity (BMI >40) 6.Pregnancy ï?? Patients kept N.P.O for surgical reasons ï?? Allergy to maltodextrin

Primary

MeasureTime frame
glycemic control, insulin levels comparison between two groupsTimepoint: FBS, At time of induction, Each hour following that till end of procedure, post operative 0 and 4 hours and 10 hours after the drink

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Gastric fluid volumes will be estimated using passive gastric reflux by nasogastric tube aspiration and Gastric pH will be estimated using urinary pH meter strip. Timepoint: At end of surgery
