Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: a) Presence of corneal ulcer: defined as a corneal epithelial defect with underlying corneal infiltrate and signs of acute inflammation b) Appropriate written and informed consent

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: a) Less than 18 years b) No consent c) Suspected viral, acanthamoeba or mixed keratitis cases d) Microbial Keratitis in both eyes e) Use of steroids or anti-microbials for other conditions

a) To identify biomarkers by analyzing the ocular samples (tears) of microbial keratitis patients (proteomics and metabolomics) throughout treatment course. b) To define the contribution of the associated microorganisms to disease pathogenesis by studying the micro/mycobiome(conjunctival swabs) in disease and compared with healthy controls c) To relate biomarker findings to clinical outcomesTimepoint: 12 months
