Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: ASA 1 and 2 Surgery under general anaesthesia with endotracheal intubation BMI less than 30

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: BMI more than 30 Anticipated difficult airway Baseline oxygen saturation less than 95 Respiratory diseases Upper abdominal surgeries

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Time to attain adequate preoxygenation defined as an end-tidal oxygen concentration(EtO2) of 10% below the inspired oxygen concentration.Timepoint: during pre- oxygenation, before induction of general anaesthesia.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Incidence of atelectasis in the immediate post-operative period using lung ultrasound. Percentage of subjects who required pre-oxygenation for more than 3 minutes to attain the target EtO2 Haemodynamic changes during pre- oxygenation Desaturation during intubation Timepoint: end of surgery
