Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Sixty patients aged between 18-60 years of either sex belonging to American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) I and II scheduled for FESS under general anaesthesia will be included in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Refusal to consent 2. Uncontrolled hypertension 3. Preexisting hypotension (MAP 4. Heart rate 5. Diabetes 6. Coagulation disorders 7. BMI > 35 kg m-2 8. Treatment with beta-blockers 9. Patients scheduled for revision of functional endoscopic sinus surgery 10. Allergy to an alpha 2 adrenergic agonist 11. Pregnancy 12. Anaemia (Hb

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To achieve and maintain target MAP 60 – 70 mmHg.Timepoint: Before start of surgery 10 minutes after induction of anaesthesia.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Changes in hemodynamic parameters like heart rate, mean arterial pressure, 2. Surgical field assessment (Fromme et al. bleeding score) 3. Surgeon’s satisfaction, (Likert scale) 4. Minimum alveolar concentration of inhaled anaesthetics (MAC) 5. Adverse effects, if any Timepoint: observations will be recorded as baseline, 10 minutes after start of dexmedetomidine loading dose infusion, before induction of anaesthesia, 1, 5 & 10 minutes after tracheal intubation, then every 15 minutes till end of surgery and after tracheal extubation, and also in postoperative period.
