Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with RRD and successful re-attachment of retina following PPV and SiO tamponade. 2. Patients with age group above 18 years. 3. Patients with good fixation for capturing good OCT image. 4. Media clarity sufficient to capture good quality OCT images (Image quality > 40) 5. Patients willing to give consent for study and follow up.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Any other retinal pathology affecting retinal nerve fibre layer thickness. 2. Surgical complication such as endophthalmitis, macular hole. 3. Borderline or reduced baseline RNFLT as per the normative data indicated by the machine at 1 week post operative follow up. 4. Patients with prior history of vitrectomy. 5. RD with macular hole. 6. Patients with diabetic maculopathy. 7. Patients with retinectomy of more than 3 clock hours. 8. RRD due to infective retinitis (ARN, CMV retinitis). 9. Patients developing post operative Epiretinal membrane over macula. 10. Patients with retinal re-detachment during SiO tamponade. 11. Patients requiring early SiO removal. 12. Distorted macular architecture at 1 week follow up visit (Loss of foveal contour, retinal thickening, cystoid spaces in macula). 13. Pre existing glaucoma. 14. IOP more than 40 mm Hg at any visit. 15. Patients undergoing any other combined surgery.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Analysis of changes of peripapillary retinal nerve fibre layer thickness in eyes with successful re-attachment of retina after parsplana vitrectomy with silicone oil tamponade for rhegmatogenous retinal detachmentTimepoint: Post operative 1 week (baseline); 4 weeks; 12 weeks

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Analysis of changes of macular retinal nerve fibre layer thickness, ganglion cell layer thickness, retinal thickness in eyes with successful re-attachment of retina after parsplana vitrectomy with silicone oil tamponade for rhegmatogenous retinal detachmentTimepoint: Post operative 1 week (baseline); 4 weeks; 12 weeks
