Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Children between the ages of completed 5 years and completed 18 years hospitalized with acute exacerbation of asthma
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Use of antibiotics during the 30 days prior to enrolment in study and documented fever (temp >38 degree celsius) 2. contraindication for use of azithromycin 3. Significant medical co-morbidity: Congenital and acquired heart disease, chronic lung disease, tuberculosis, cholestatic jaundice 4. Life threatening exacerbation requiring PICU admissions. 5. children already enrolled in the study and presenting within 60 days of discharge from hospital.
