Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Age not less than 2 years and not more than 6 years. 2. Patients with American Society of Anesthesiologist Physical status 1 and 2. 3. Children posted for elective surgery. 4. Children planned for general anesthesia requiring intubation. 5. Availability of informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Those undergoing maxillofacial or cardiac surgeries. 2. Those with syndromic and genetic conditions and congenital malformations especially involving facial dysmorphias. 3. Child with stridor. 4. Child with acute respiratory tract infections. 5. Those with decreased atlanto-occipital joint mobility. 6. Those with neuromuscular disorders. 7. Those with neck trauma. 8. Those cases which take longer than 30 seconds of apneic time.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the incidence of appropriate endotracheal tube selection by the two methods viz, Ultrasonographic assessment of subglottic diameter and age based Penlingtonâ??s formula.Timepoint: Air leak test will be performed at baseline following successful tracheal intubation.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
To compare the incidence of post extubation respiratory complications between the two groups.Timepoint: Assessment for respiratory complications to be done at 4 and 24 hours postoperatively.
