Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Hb electrophoresis diagnosed cases of Thalassemia major. Parents/guardian willing to give consent to participate in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Cases having HIV, HBV infection, Hepatic failure, DM, TB, malarial infection, active liver disease etc. Other haemoglobinopathies like sickle cell anaemia, hereditary spherocytosis etc. Patients having cardiac and kidney complications. Patients undergone Splenectomy and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation. Known allergy to any content of Drakshadi Avaleha and Gandhakadi Yoga.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Reduction in blood transfusion frequency.Timepoint: 0 day, after completion of treatment i.e 3 months and during follow up

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1.Improvement in overall haematocrit value. 2.Reduction in serum ferritin levels. 3.Improvement in quality of life assessed through TranQol scale. Timepoint: 0 day, after completion of treatment i.e 3 months and during follow up
