Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. All midline laparotomy wounds 2. Age 18-65 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. History of previous laparotomy 2. Pregnancy and lactation 3. BMI greater than or equal to 35 kg/m2 4. Immunocompromised states like HIV, Steroid therapy etc 5. Cases planned for laparostomy

MeasureTime frame
Incidence of surgical site infection (SSI) including superficial and deep SSI, as defined using Center for Disease Control criteria, occurring within 30 days.Timepoint: Day 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30

MeasureTime frame
1. Postoperative pain, as measured by visual analogue scale (VAS) 2. Duration of hospital stay. 3. Days to complete wound healingTimepoint: Day 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30
