Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All infants less than 37 weeks with respiratory Distress soon after birth and with clinical and radiological diagnosis of RDS

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Infants who received respiratory support with either of these modalities prior to randomization Infants with upper airway malformations who are not eligible for non-invasive ventilation Infants who required intubation in delivery room for resuscitation/early intubation within 6 hours of birth. Infants with major congenital malformations (cardiac, lung, airway or others requiring ventilation) Infants with hemodynamic instability at the time of randomization, defined by significant alterations in perfusion, blood pressure or worsening lactate warranting inotropic support.
