Eligibility
Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1.Adults (both genders) above 18 years of age 2.Unilateral intra-articular or extra-articular distal radius fracture (considered a fracture at or distal to the junction of the metaphysis and diaphysis) that requires open reduction and internal fixation with volar locking plate with demonstratable DRUJ instability using intraoperative fluoroscopy and intra-operative clinical assessment. 3.Distal radius fractures associated with or without ulnar styloid fractures.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. An open injury or a fracture with neurovascular injury. 2. Previous injury to the injured or contralateral shoulder, elbow, forearm, wrist or hand. 3. Symptomatic wrist pain or instability in either limb prior to the fracture. 4. DRUJ instability treated with primary open/arthroscopic TFCC repair 5. DRUJ instability treated with Ulnar styloid fracture fixation
Design outcomes
Primary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| Fixation and immobilization of acute DRUJ instability offers better stability initially and good functional outcomes in the future than immediate mobilization following fixation of acute distal radius fractures by volar locking plateTimepoint: Functional outcomes are compared among three treatments groups at 6 months and one year follow ups using students T test | — |
Secondary
| Measure | Time frame |
|---|---|
| No significant difference in functional outcomes among three treatment groups at 6 months and one year followupsTimepoint: No significant difference in functional outcomes among three treatment groups at 6 months and one year followups | — |
