Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All consecutive patients admitted to the PICU with the diagnosis of a cardiac illness from the age group of 1 month to 12 years of either gender will be enrolled in the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: i. Patients whose parent/guardian refuses to give informed consent. ii. Also patients who develop a cardiac illness secondary to another primary illness (like respiratory infection, septic/ neurogenic shock, post-cardiac arrest, hypoxia, etc. will be excluded from the study.

Design outcomes

Primary

MeasureTime frame
1. Frequency of patients admitted with cardiac illnesses (as the primary diagnosis). 2. Type of cardiac illnesses. 3. Outcome in patients with cardiac illnesses (survival/ death). Timepoint: At discharge from the Pediatric intensive care unit or at death of the patient.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
1. Indication for admission to PICU. 2. Medications used for treatment of cardiac illnesses. 3. Complications encountered in patients with cardiac illnesses. 4. Frequency of patients with cardiac illnesses requiring ventilatory support.Timepoint: At discharge from the Pediatric intensive care unit or at death of the patient.
