Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients with new onset stroke with an acute infarct on CT/MRI brain, admitted in medical wards in BPS Govt. Medical College, Khanpur kalan, Sonipat, Haryana. 2. Patients without stroke, who will attend the medical OPD will be taken as controls (Age and Sex matched).

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with 1.History of transient ischemic attacks prior to stroke 2. Chronic kidney disease 3. History of systemic hypertension 4. History of diabetes mellitus 5. On drugs that affect vitamin D metabolism (Antiepileptic, Steroid, Rifampin) 6. Patients taking calcium or vitamin D supplements
