Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: for cross- sectional study, 1. All the newly diagnosed HNC patients aged 18 years and above reporting to the center for treatment. 2. All those who are willing to participate in the study and provides voluntary informed consent. For case-control study, 1.For Cases: Newly diagnosed Oral cancer patients reporting to the Centre for treatment, during the study period. 2. Controls: Hospital based controls: - Bystanders of cases attending Surgery OPD or admitted in the Surgery ward will be included as controls. Community based controls: Individuals attending the rural health centers of Department of Community Medicine, KMC, Manipal for the management of general health conditions.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria for cross sectional study: 1. Patients with premalignant conditions. 2. Patients without biopsy confirmation of malignancy. 3. Patients previously treated for HNCs, and presently with recurrent/progressive disease. Exclusion criteria for case control study: 1. Cases: Oral cancer patients who are severely ill and unable to give informed consent. 2. Controls: 2.1. Bystanders related to HNC cases. 2.2. Those with previous history of any cancer.
