Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients above age of 18 years admitted to ICU undergoing orotracheal intubation under direct laryngoscopy using Macintosh blade with any one or more of the following predictors of difficult intubation features 1.Thyromental distance 2.Hyomental distance 3.Sternomental distance 4.Neck circumference >40cm 5.History of obstructive sleep apnoea 6.History of previous difficult intubation 7.Large tongue 8.Cervical spine immobility or limited cervical spine extension 9.Inter incisor gap 10.Buck teeth/ over bite of incisors 11.Retrognathia / chin length 12.Facial trauma 13.Suspected airway Edema 14.BMI >30
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1.Patients below the age of 18 years 2.Pregnant women 3.Known anatomical abnormalities of upper airway or glottic structures [e.g.: epiglottitis, malignancy, laryngeal mass] as use of bougie has been known to be advantageous in these cases.
