Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. At least six months since the onset of unilateral stroke (infarct or hemorrhage) 2. Presence of spasticity in the ankle muscles (i.e. measured by Modified Modified Ashworth Scale, MMAS 1-3) 3. The ability of ambulation with, or without assistive devices 4. Preserved cognitive and communicative functions

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Recurrent stroke 2. Previous treatment with nerve blocks or motor point injections with neurolytic agents 3. Infiltration of botulinum toxin in the last six months 4. Unstable hypertension 5. Any absolute contraindication for deep dry needling (sensory alterations and the use of anticoagulants and epilepsy.) 6. Needle phobia
