Intervention1: Dexmedetomidine: Group D 0.5 - Patients will receive 0.5 mcg/kg of dexmedetomidine in 20 ml normal saline Group D 0.7 - Patients will receive 0.7 mcg/kg of dexmedetomidine in 20 ml norm

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients belonging to American Society of Anaesthesiologist Grade I and II, posted for elective surgery under general anaesthesia

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patient refusal Patient with known allergy to study drug Patients with history of recent myocardial infarction ( patients with epilepsy, hepatic failure, psychiatric disease, sepsis or systemic infections, neurological disease patients with major illnesses like bronchial asthma, chronic cough, upper respiratory tract infection 2 weeks prior to surgery patients who had received analgesics or sedatives within previous 24 hours

Primary

MeasureTime frame
To study and compare the incidence and severity of etomidate induced myoclonus in all 3 groupsTimepoint: after induction with etomidate for 3 minutes

MeasureTime frame
1.To study and compare the incidence of adverse effects of dexmedetomidine 2.To study and compare the effect of different doses of dexmedetomidine on attenuation of stress response to laryngoscopy and intubationTimepoint: 1. from onset of action of dexmedetomidine to injection of etomidate 2. before starting dexmedetomidine infusion till 5 minutes after intubation
