Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. Patients (18-65 years) intubated for a duration of more than 48 hours and on controlled mechanical ventilator admitted in intensive care units, AIIMS New Delhi due to any medical/surgical reason.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Patients with pre-existing neuromuscular diseases (myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), cervical cord injury, diaphragmatic palsy 2. Pregnancy 3. Morbidly obese patient 4. Patients with poor diaphragmatic USG windows (presence of surgical dressings/ burns etc.) 5. Patients with a current pneumothorax or pneumomediastinum 6. Acute/worsening respiratory failure at or before day 3, any new onset respiratory failure defined as RR >35/min, P/F ratio 7. Patients extubated before day3 8. Patients on long term steroid treatment
