Interventions

Intervention1: Laparoscopic eTEP mesh repair: 1. A Foley catheter to decompress the urinary bladder will be used for the lower abdomen defect and in cases with anticipated long duration of surgery. 2

Eligibility

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Adult patients of either gender aged between 18-65 years planned for mesh repair of ventral hernia. 2. Patients having uncomplicated primary ventral or incisional hernial defects. 3.Midline defect with expected hernial width equal to or less than 10cm.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Patient with associated groin hernia.

Primary

MeasureTime frame
Length of post-operative hospital stay in daysTimepoint: Day of surgery to Discharge from hospital. The operative day will be defined as Post op Day (POD) zero while the next day will be defined as POD1 till discharge from hospital after surgery.

Secondary

MeasureTime frame
Post-operative painTimepoint: 1.Acute pain intensity By Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NRS-11) on post-operative day 1 and day 7. 2. Chronic Pain By the Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System (PROMIS(r) Pain Intensity short form (3a) 1 day before surgery, post-operative day 15 and day 30. ;Surgical Site infection (SSI)Timepoint: within 30 days of surgery
