Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients requiring intubation with acute hypoxaemic respiratory failure according to the following criteria : Respiratory rate more than 25 breaths per minute, or signs of respiratory distress, with a partial pressure of oxygen to FiO2 ratio equal or below 300mmHg
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Intubation for cardiac arrest, Contraindications to non invasive ventilation (recent laryngeal, oesophageal or gastric surgery, facial fractures), Pregnancy

| To record adverse events like hypotension, arrhythmia, aspirationTimepoint: Presence of severe hypotension (systolic blood pressure less than 65mmHg recorded at least once or less than 90mmHg lasting for 30 minutes despite treatment) or arrhythmias upto 30 minutes after intubation will be recorded Aspiration will be evaluated by taking a chest xray 48 hours after intubation. | — |
