Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Child 1. Preschool children between four to six years of age from Kannada-speaking households 2. Children who are rated as proficient Kannada speakers as per the adapted Child Language Experience and Proficiency Questionnaire 3. All children should have age adequate gross motor, fine motor, activities of daily living, receptive language, expressive language, cognitive skills, social and emotional skills as assessed by Communication DEALL Developmental Checklist Caregiver Parents of children between 4 to 6 years of age 1. Parents from urban middle-lower socioeconomic status as per Modified Kuppuswamy socioeconomic rating scale 2. Parents with minimum secondary school education 3. Parents of children who are proficient in Kannada (Proficiency score more than 3 in speaking, understanding, reading and writing) and use Kannada language predominantly at home

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Child 1. Children with a history of any neurological, speech, language, hearing, cognitive, or motor difficulties 2. Children with delayed milestones as per the parental report and researcher observation. 3. Children with a family history of speech-language or cognitive disorders Caregiver 1. Parents who are not proficient in Kannada 2. Parents with any neurological, psychological or language difficulties

MeasureTime frame
A detailed account of production and developmental patterns of noun and verb inflectional morphology in terms of types and tokens in preschool children and child-directed speech across four different age groups (4 years 1 month to 4 years 6 months, 4 years 7 months to 5 years, 5 years 1 month to 5 years 6 months and 5 years 7 months to 6 years). The study findings will provide an estimate of the frequency of morphological inflections between the caregivers input and the childs output.Timepoint: 15th October 2022 to 31st December 2024
